6S, ep. 4: NYC stand-up comedian, Geneva Rust-Orta, learns improv live on the show

from No Suggestion: An Improv Comedy Talk Show · host Ralf Jean-Pierre

We love this week's edition of our new summer project, 6S: Some Suggestions Sometimes Summer School Series with guest, Geneva Rust-Orta (@genevarustorta). Each week this summer, on #NoSuggestionPod, we'll have on a performer, usually a comedian, with very little long-form improv experience. Me, and a few of past No Suggestion guests, all seasoned improv comedians, will give that guest a private improv class live on the show. Our special guest this week is stand-up comic Geneva Rust-Orta. Geneva does stand up all over the city and puts up so many of her own shows and open mics. She is fresh off taping her first stand-up hour which will be dropping in a few weeks. Guest co-hosts Matty Tuzynski (@mall_kitty), April Sickler (@asickler), and I had such a fun time giving Geneva her first real improv class. We got to chat with Geneva about her paranoia that everyone hates her, her unique upbringing, why she needs to smile in her comedy, and her love of My Cousin Vinny. Between these fun convos we found some terrific improv scenes with Geneva, and really dissected what worked and didn't work. This episode is low-key but so smart, and fun, and full of gems. I'm really jazzed about this summer series, getting to swap ideas with different varieties of comedians about the common values and differences within our disciplines. We're learning a lot. If you missed the previous 6S episodes make sure you check them out after this one. But first treat yourself to this episode with Geneva. If you enjoy it half as much as much as we enjoyed making it, you're gonna have so much fun. You can learn more about Ralf, his comedy, his music (as Precious Gorgeous), his acting, his teaching, this podcast, find full episodes of this podcast, and more at preciousgorgeous.com! No Suggestion: An Improv Comedy Talk Show is broadcast LIVE on Radio Free Brooklyn (@radiofreebk) every Thursday night at 11pm. Please subscribe, rate, and leave a review, that really helps us out.
