7/09/2023- Ep 13.2: "Two Roads"
In Matthew 7:13-14, we come to the beginning of the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Is Jesus looking for applause at the end of his sermon? No. He’s looking for his hearers to make a choice: the wide way which is easy and travelled by many, or the narrow way which is hard and found by few. Paradoxically, the wide way leads to confinement, and eventually death, while the narrow way leads to an expansive freedom, and ultimately life. What are some expressions of the mountain analogy (many roads, one destination) you have seen in popular culture? What stands or has stood between you and Jesus? What are some practical things you can do to part with this “luggage”?Read Psalm 73. How does the psalmist’s realization help us choose the narrow path when it is the more difficult one?
