7/12/26 - House Cleaning in the Household of God

In this powerful message from 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, the church is confronted with the unmistakable stench of hidden sin rotting within its walls. Like a foul odor ignored by those who simply light a candle and pretend it’s not there, the Corinthian church tolerated shocking sexual immorality while puffed up in pride—exactly the danger facing churches today in a culture drowning in moral compromise, re-defined sexuality, and silent tolerance disguised as grace. Paul doesn’t whisper. With apostolic authority and fatherly love, he calls the body of Christ to remove the unrepentant sin that defiles the whole lump, exercising redemptive discipline that protects the congregation and warns the sinner.Thankfully, the gospel holds both truth and grace together at the cross: Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed, freeing us to purge the old leaven of malice and evil and live as a new lump—with sincerity and truth. This is a call to holiness that isn’t legalism, but the natural fruit of the finished work of Jesus. Church, the rot must go. The Lamb has been slain—will you live like it?
