Thanks to the advocacy and work of countless individuals, Australia is finally facing up to the scourge of domestic and family violence. However, the community and media attention has not been equally distributed. Many survivors still feel like their experiences are invisible. Members of the queer community may also be victims of domestic and family violence and some say that indifference to their stories can compound trauma. In this episode of There’s No Place Like Home, we introduce you to Jex. Jex is a trans man, who presented as female when he first met his partner more than a decade ago. Jex was subjected to physical violence as well as coercive control. But there weren’t the support services available to him that there would have been if Jex were a straight woman. Systems are generally built to service the majority, with insufficient care for the minority. Those whose particular needs don’t fit into a neat little box, are left languishing… In this episode of There’s No Place Like Home, you’ll hear from experts, advocates and practitioners - as well as Jex himself.
