# 70 - Leading Multi-generational success

from Profitable Farmer · host Farm Owners Academy

So the saying goes…   The first generation starts a business. The second generation builds it up. The third generation ruins it.   I am sure we have all heard this bandied around over the years…   In my estimation, the Hutcheon & Pearce story, led by Arron Hutcheon, is a great rural and regional example of how to buck this trend, and thrive.   In this episode, I am fortunate to speak with Arron Hutcheon, third generation Managing Director to the highly successfully Hutcheon & Pearce John Deere Dealership to the Riverina and beyond.   Arron is a young, genuine, authentic and confident business leader. Under his watch and over 20 years, the H&P business has grown from 60 to 300 employees. The business how operates across 14 locations, and is recognised for excellence within the global John Deere franchise, now delivering the latest and most sophisticated machinery and in-paddock production service & technologies to thousands of farm businesses across southern New South Wales.   In this podcast, and with their business as the example, we explore: how to get the right people around you; how to align them to a common vision; the importance of core values and clear company performance standards; how to be unique in how you attract and then retain talent; how to lead change and align teams; communication rhythms; and what makes for successful succession. We also get a glimpse of the next technologies to transform our enterprises and production systems.   From a business many Riverina families have been dealing with for three generations, we learn what it takes to deliver world-class service locally and lead a company through genuine growth and significant change… confirming for me that there is no ‘silver bullet’, just good, old-fashioned determination, innovation and genuine care.   Thank you Arron, and Congratulations!   Hutch PS: Got questions about this topic?
