#70 Trauma, PTSD and Self-Hatred with Sheridan Taylor

from Off The Comma · host Paul Briley

In this episode, our guest shares about his experience with suicide. If this is a sensitive topic for you, please consider this before listening. In this episode, we talk to Sheridan Taylor. He describes himself as caring, honest and a man who tries to help. Sheridan lives in Canada. Sheridan tells us about sitting on a comma with a lifetime of experienced and inherited traumas. He describes carrying cumulative layers of trauma and PTSD that left him feeling trapped in pain and loneliness. At one point, Sheridan felt his only way out was to end his life. At that critical moment, his inner voice directed him toward the future of his family and he started to see himself in it again. His journey of hard work to deprogram his self hatred led him from being a trained killer, to a trained feeler. Tune in to hear what Sheridan means when he says “we broke the cycle!”You can find Sheridan on:Website:  https://sheridantaylor.ca/Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/sheridantaylorauthor/Linkedin:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheridan-taylor-7759b282/Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/sheridantaylorauthorX:  https://x.com/sheridanftaylorSheridan would like to acknowledge the following individuals, organizations and/or causes that matter to him and invite you to consider supporting them and/or sharing their messages:Veterans Transition Network https://vtncanada.org/  Since its inception, the Veterans Transition Program has maintained the belief that soldiers are best served by other soldiers. The researchers found that many of the veterans they worked with were reluctant to participate in programs or access resources that were provided by the government or military, for fear that their information would not be kept confidential. Many veterans fear the consequences an operational-stress injury could have on their military record and future career prospects. Thus, it was important to ensure in the expansion of the VTP that this confidentiality was protected, and that though grants were sought to enable the growth of the program, the Veterans Transition Network (VTN) would remain an independent organization.Wounded Warriors Canada https://woundedwarriors.ca/  Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) is a national mental health service provider dedicated to serving: Trauma Exposed Organizations (TExO), Trauma Exposed Professionals (TExP), and their Trauma Exposed Families (TExF). WWC specializes in providing culturally informed services that utilize a combination of education, counselling, and training approaches to support resiliency and recovery from post-trauma injuries.Wayfound Mental Health Group Before Operational Stress Program https://www.wayfound.ca/mental-health-training  Higher Ground Counseling and Wellness  https://highergroundcounselling.ca  Alberta Critical Incident Peer Network https://abcism.ca/  Are you sitting on a comma in your life?
