Give me all the blood impressions. Your heart and friends. This is Luna Del's podcast, raw impression. Episode number 11, January 25th, 2023.
Hmm. Do you have a frog in your throat? Always. You're patting your chest like you're anticipating.
I'm mixing it up. Get that gunk out of it. Oh my god. OK, I just want to say to our listeners out there, this format today is not going to be our typical Wednesday format where you know what it is.
But we're doing the mini. Do they? Do they know what it is? It's freeform.
Yeah, Wednesday's more freeform. Longer freeform. Longer freeform. Wednesday is structured because Lou sets up like a template with prompts.
For Monday's mini music episode, I set a template with prompts. Yes. And it ends at a very particular time, at 15 minutes. Yeah.
And we have to kind of like just talk. And we keep it's not very highly edited. We pretty much keep what you hear on Monday. Mondays are just I create the template, and we work within that, and things pop up unexpectedly.
True. And Wednesday, usually we talk for, I don't know, 45 minutes or so, maybe an hour if we're feeling a bit chatty. An hour and a half. And so there's a lot more editing to do.
But today, we're doing a special long form Wednesday mini music style because we had two snow days, a 40 weekend, and our work week is a little squeezed. So we thought, OK, we don't really have time to edit a very long conversation. So here we are, folks. Enjoy it.
We've just explained the technicalities. What's going on? People love that. They're just like, oh, yeah.
I was really wondering. Oh, yeah. I was really wondering. And I would also like to apologize in advance for my probably heavy breathing you're hearing, because I'm congested.
I'm congested. I'm fighting some sort of sinus battle. We're in a little bit of a battle. I think you're winning.
Thank you. I am feeling better today. If you ever need any breathing techniques to clear up your nose, I often mention breathing techniques work. Yes, Lou is a dedicated follower of the techniques of Wim Hof.
We'll talk about that later. Yeah, that's a whole episode. That's a whole episode. I want to make sure that I got on my facts straight before I go off on Wim Hof.
If I start talking about it now, I could just be a lot of garbage. Yeah. Half truth. Well, there's always a few half truths thrown in here.
Why not? That's true. But yeah, so Lou is really good about in the morning. He does his breathing exercises.
And it's actually changed your sinuses considerably. It has. Yeah. I mean, this is.
We're not talking about that. Oh, I have some things to tell you. OK. Tell me.
So I finished the Dennis Hopper season. Hey, what? You finished that book? I finished it.
I didn't know that. That's great. I have an excellent, timely fun fact. Tell me.
About Easy Rider. And I'm holding my finger in the air. Are I was just going to say the finger went up? Yes.
Dennis Hopper's character and Easy Rider is modeled after David Crosby. What? He studied David Crosby. His mannerisms, the way he dressed, the way he spoke.
And that is his character and Easy Rider. Holy cow, I had no idea. And I literally have chills right now. Yeah.
But that makes perfect sense. And on top of that, Peter Fonda was kind of meant to be a Roger McGwin sort. And actually sort of replicating the McGwin Crosby thing. Yeah.
Oh my gosh. OK, folks, if you have not seen Easy Rider, watch it. I mean, it's a great movie anyway. Wonderful soundtrack.
But Peter Fonda is like fantastic in it. And it's also, can I just sorry to energize? No, it's OK. Another Easy Rider fun fact.
That's one of the first movies, if not the first, to use music by bands in the soundtrack. No way. Yes. I have so many chills.
This is right. And I'm also so delighted that you withheld this information from me because I feel like the podcast is kind of giving us this opportunity for you to hold exciting information and surprise me with it. I didn't know any of this. And I didn't even know you were sitting around walking around and holding all this information.
Like the time I told you I was on edibles. Yeah. What time is it you on today, Lou? This is a little more exciting than that.
Wait, are you on edibles today? No. Oh, good. No, no, no.
I just, that's enough. This Easy Rider stuff is way. And the fact that you finished the book, usually, you like to tell me when you finish a book because you're very proud. So you just like, you had all sorts of sneaky surprises for me today.
I love that. Oh. What's my other surprise? No podcast people.
They'll just keep your marriage just spicy and keep it fresh and new. Look at that. How fun. Well, we can edit out the.
Oh, so that was a great book by the way, too. So you should know what was the book again, you read? They thought we were crazy. Everybody thought we were crazy.
By Mark. Mark Rosso. There you go. Nice.
Well, you started and finished. Dennis Hopper died of prostate cancer. Oh. I didn't know that.
Yeah. OK, I actually didn't even know he was dead. I didn't either until the end of the book. I held off.
Have you found out live? I don't know. I thought he was so handsome and Easy Rider. Oh, god.
Don't. Well, he's just beautiful. Oh. Oh, here we go.
Yay. OK. Welcome to Raw Impressions Toy Commercial Recreations. Toy commercial recreations.
Global recreations. Commercial recreations. Here you go, and Tony. Welcome to the moment.
Digger the dog. Digger he goes with you when you explode. She can go for the ball. He's yug down for sure.
What's your dog's name? Digger. Digger the dog. Digger he goes with you when you explode.
Go for the ball. He's yug down for sure. Digger the dog. When you pull his string, he walks five feet.
From Rumbrum. Oh, my god. I did more commercial recreations. I love that.
I just love that. Oh, my god. What a week this was. I did two.
I did two. So there's going to be another one coming. There's another one coming. Oh, my gosh.
But Digger the dog. Digger the dog. That's cute. People actually suggested these when I started doing these.
They were like, well, you got to digger the dog. I'm like, yes. You're damn right. I got to do Digger the dog.
I love that commercial. That's right. So these are Raw Impressions listeners requests. Thank you for requests.
Well, they reminded me. I need to be reminding like, yes. Because I knew right away when they said, you know, do you remember that commercial? Oh, yes.
Absolutely. Yeah, that's before my time. But dang, that is cute. Yeah, it's a little plastic dog that you bought.
And so everyone, Lou does all of the music and sound and words. It's a literal recreation. Yeah, like all the voices you're hearing. And I even do it into the timing of the commercial, which people can check out on the Instagram.
I'm going to post a couple of videos. We'll post them throughout the week. Yeah, because I went off to them. YouTube and downloaded the video, the actual commercials and then took the audio out and put mine in.
Yeah, I love that. Yeah, it's actually working out. I don't know. Check it out.
And also let us know some more ideas of what you'd like to see commercial toy recreations. Oh, commercial recreations. Yes, I love that. I'm sitting here thinking, now, what would I like to see?
So you did the cabbage patch doll for me? You done digger? You did rub it up dolly? You did baby alive?
Light bright. Oh, light bright. You have to smash up Derby. Oh my gosh.
That was my. Yeah. That was I really I came home with that one. I love that one.
That one also or did you put that one over the? I did. But exactly to the commercial. No one thought it was funny because they didn't understand that it was funny.
I knew it was funny. I didn't know. I thought it was just literally the commercial. Right.
Like, oh, gee, why is Lou putting smash up Derby in my feet? I don't know. You're like, dude, that's me. I put my music directly on top of the actual old commercial.
Yeah. I want to give you a heads up. I feel a sneeze coming on and it's tickling. Oh, the back of me knows.
This is not a good Amazon moment. You know, sneeze could really be actually a, like, that could really make someone mad. Sneezes legit send people into a tailspin. Yeah.
I'm going to say the bar lows are kind of known for having an aggressive sneeze. I used to. You know what I would do when I was a teenager. When I was a gross teenager.
I mean, you know, I'm gross now. I'm a little raw. And but I used to like take tissue paper and make it into almost like a wand. Like, you know, like four inches rolled up, spiraled tissue paper and then jam it up my nose.
So it reached way, way. Oh, okay. Oh my God. Oh, creations.
Okay. So I can show recreations. Show recreations. awfully crucial recreations.
Show recreations. Ref Burns. Yeah. Equations.
Ouch. Yah I know. I'm on a, I'd say, soon. Goh.
P in your mouth. Ouch. I'm out- ah. Inch one.
On the third. On the third is good to go. I'm out, but I was confident. the original the original is a woman's voice that sort of quavers it's incredibly earnest yeah 70s folk it's like Joan Baez was singing or something yeah it's really yeah it's like boy yeah I have to say that telling you true oh yeah like this is Irish or a merman kind of classic vaudevillian touch to it I'm telling you true totally go to youtube and look it up if you want to see and I think it inchworm well I'm just gonna say that would have been a cool toy kind of reminds me of the one that's like the ball that looks like you know that it's like imagine a teletubby's head upside or wait upside down you're bouncing a teletubby's head oh you're talking about hip-ity hop oh my god maybe you could do a hip-ity hop commercial I don't remember the song so maybe it's not that good but I'm gonna look up a hippie hop yeah we'll have to look it up but I remember them kind of like you just see hip-ity hops like string on you know playgrounds they were they were a fantastic fantastic toy I loved my hippity hop I feel like Izzy would really like a hippity hop or like an inchworm because the kid is like she's bouncing around all the charms I mean we put we put our I put my recreation on top of the original videos yes so you'll get to see how cute the toy is yeah and ask make a quick note here what you just heard was the censored version yeah and we're not gonna go into it you can go to to YouTube and watch the very original you're an adult you'll figure it out actually any inchworm commercial you can figure out why it was censored but correct we censored it right 2023 correct yes well anyway maybe hippity hop for next time I would just like to see a hippity hop commercial yeah we gotta look that up I can I can feel that little I mean it was like they were just this big piece of rubber with a handle without rubber handle on top exactly one solid piece well I know I thought it had like almost a triangle handle that you held onto like a you're a whole 10 years yeah I don't know younger than me so it might have changed oh no so I might have changed in the in that period of time that being said folks let us know what other toy commercial recreations you want to hear yeah that's fun I like those I was born to do this and people I mean you know download the episode yeah so it really helps it moves us towards me being able to make toy commercial recreations full time yeah like all the time download download it's uh it's the key to podcast success it turns out and um first off if you're here and you're listening thank you sincerely thank you this is literally one of the best things if not the best thing we've ever done together I'm having such a good time I didn't leave the house for an entire week I know this sounds like one of those fun um you know when you were little and your mom would have like the PBS sponsoring day on and they'd be like call in everybody and I know keep your favorite programming on the air I'll tell you what I didn't want to I didn't want to ask people to download at all but when I was making these commercials this week and I realized how this is my destiny my destiny is recreating this downloading the original videos from youtube recreating the music and the voiceovers for the rest of my life yeah these are like loving tributes I I cannot overstate how much I love doing this oh I love it too and you know what else I love what Lou is wearing this hat that I made this weekend is so enormous and hilarious I didn't even know what you were doing you'd been sitting on the couch just while I was up here blowing my ears out making music um you were downstairs just knitting away crocheting away yeah well it's a different tool I mean there's knitting needles and then there's a crochet hook and um yes but anyway thank you it's a it's a crochet I didn't even know what it was and then I'll then you just took it from your lap and handed it to me like here's a hat put it on and it's huge it's awesome because no no knitted caps really fit me I don't know yeah I got a big beam yeah and right now you even have it stretched over your head from the whole area so and when you first handed it to me I had this this moment of like panic I have a moment of panic whenever anyone hands me gives me something that they've made yeah I'm like oh god because you gotta love it you're gonna say that you love it and uh even if you don't love it um so I put the hat on with a little bit of this fear and then I just kind of haven't taken it off since so you legitimately love it I just legitimately love it it feels it feels like me yeah and it's warm and it's in just this week we got our first real just like yesterday we got our first real actual snow so I was out like I was out shoveling snow uh-huh with my hat on and just and just a sweater because like if you if your head is covered yep heads and toes you got to keep them covered yeah I had my boots on uh-huh had my first time I put my boots on this year or this winter oh no we're out I love it I fixed my boots boots with that uh that waterproof tape uh-huh what's that stuff called it's like I don't know ah yeah um well I was gonna say some people asked if I'm gonna put those in the Barlow family general store and uh I don't know maybe it costs a little much because it takes me a while to make them and the yarns really nice and I don't know they're expensive but you know we'll see um but I might try to whip up some to have as like extra little bonus merch at lose solo shows coming up in Los Angeles everybody and people in Los Angeles well they do they do need hats it's actually going to say people in Los Angeles don't wear hats or need them you're wrong well you know in Los Angeles they start wearing scarves as soon as they can because it's a style thing so hats are kind of I mean this is a really this is this is for us here uh-huh this is very function you don't think that I should bring it to LA you don't think people might like these big goofy hats in LA um I don't know it seems like a lot of work oh you break it in my heart you gotta make some of the the lyric tease so we can take well definitely do that for sure so you're gonna do both well tell me tell me should I do that is anyone in LA interested in the enormous hat that I made you can cost like 150 bucks no it's not did you use like 70 dollars a yarn on this thing I don't know you did it's it's not it's not cheap you know but I don't pay myself that much so less than a babysitter less than a babysitter in 2023 true we're a babysitter I don't know anyway well that's being said we're coming out to Los Angeles we mentioned that on mini music Monday and we might just be yapping about it a lot because we're excited we lived there for many years it's um in our hearts we love it and we're gonna be hanging out on the east side like in Glendale and Silver Lake and Atwater and hitting up all of our favorite spots I might take Izzy to the Los Angeles Zoo it's exciting it's a slightly depressing zoo oh why did you have to bring it down they had their koala bear exhibit once I went in there and there was like it was this big huge room and then there was like one tree just sitting in the middle of it you know it's like a sort of a moat around it and there was just this koala bear hugging like a stripped tree the tree was totally stripped it was just I was sometimes zoos really they kind of they depress me because you know yeah I cannot see like a wild cat in a cage like pacing in a circle where you can see like the Lauren circle I'm bringing this down so anyway maybe we're in scratch that we're not going to go out and do a rang attack exhibit is fantastic I like the ring is feeling guilty now for wanting to eat dinner and they have the the mirror cats they've got mirror cats there I love mirror cats yeah and that's pretty good they've got a pretty good mirror cat situation I've been there hun I mean I've been there I've seen it I don't remember the mirror cat of course okay yeah I mean I just now I'm feeling like zoos are the devil and you know it's like walking into the devil's mouth and feeding it and feeding money from having a memory of a very I went to the Detroit Zoo when I was very young and they kept it must have been a marmoset that I was this this was like marmoset it's kind of this monkey it's a monkey anything that's like monkey I like but it's one of the it's it's like a monkey crossed with like a rodent oh but very cute I mean big eyes but it was sitting in the cage and I looked at a very small glass enclosure that it was in and it was it had a it was holding a a piece of poop in both of its hands and looking at me intently and eating the piece of poop and and I just munching and I was like wow that's a I mean bored marmoset oh my god lord I'm like wow so you're just in this tiny I mean this tiny cage okay like I said not going to the zoo now who is a comedian oh let me say this it's not an anti-zoon the meat of the pandemic is he started watching videos I think it was from the Cincinnati Zoo where that oh that's yeah the legendary guy from the Cincinnati Zoo who's the legendary guy we can't look it up no talking about the animal what's the animal that like the the animal that was born there and people like travel from all over the world to see it oh is it like a seal or a whale or a oh it's a hippopotamus or what's it oh this is a terrible I could listen to Abby Barlow my sister-in-law is probably now screaming at out in the air because she I feel bad she's probably like Adele it's da da da da obviously and I'm like I know I'm sorry Abby I'm blinking I'm blinking um damn what the hell is that gonna be interject for one second about Cincinnati Zoo yes they were one of the first zoos to really take it take to the the airwaves like there was a David Letterman had the director of the zoo on regularly and he would bring wild animals for David Letterman this is early David Letterman why just you know tap hats like it's a talk show it's a you know 60 70s talk show device you know brings some wild animals uh-huh-huh to the uh-huh-huh no I mean but why the Cincinnati Zoo I don't know they just had a really good idea Fiona they had a really good idea of the hippo the hippo phiona so she just people love watching videos of her and Izzy got into watching videos of baby Fiona at the Cincinnati Zoo and I have to say I thought that the zoo staff at the Cincinnati Zoo did wonderful loving behind the scenes videos they seemed incredibly dedicated and caring to the animals and talked a lot about them and I was very moved and touched by it it actually made me want to go to the Cincinnati Zoo Unidale?
Yes that's us. Unidale? Okay we're here. It's time to it's time to end the episode.
Okay well should I go to the zoo everybody? Thank you for listening to Raw Impression. Should I bring my hands? Let me know.
Oh. It's gonna be good.
