#71 David Charlton – What’s Your Money Story?

from Let’s Talk Money and More

In today’s first episode of the podcast for 2023, I am joined by David Charlton. David is a Sports Psychologist who helps athletes, coaches and teams of all levels, from the motivated and talented youngster up to the experienced professional who competes internationally. Typically, his clients are looking to perform more consistently in their chosen sport and deal with the pressures thatthey face better. David supports them by developing their Mental Toughness using evidence based tools from sport and organisational psychology alongside personal insights. As well, as working in sport he also enjoys supporting senior leaders, entrepreneurs and business professionals to deal better with the pressures and stressors that they face in their lives and work.Key TakeawaysComparing yourself to others, being jealous of other people’s successes and feeling resentful traps you from really seeing and assessing the particular path you are on. These strong emotions hinder you from taking action to reach the next step.Going through the process of self awareness is challenging, painful and uncomfortable. But when you break through, that is where change starts.Even elite and successful sports people and successful entrepreneurs have to break down the boring, and simple things day in day out.A lot of sports people tie their identify, their self value, and self worth to their performance and that is not a good combination. That’s why it’s important to find different avenues outside of sports. There are three basic psychological needs: autonomy, relatedness and competence. In building a business, it’s okay to recognise that you don’t have to be good at everything, that it’s important to accept that strength cannot lie in all the fields. A good leader knows how to delegate. And by delegating you empower other people as well. The best thing that you can do is charge based on the results you were bringing for your clients. Because those people who value what you're doing, they will do the work, they will get the results. And they'll thank you for the part that you play in helping them to get the results.Connect with David CharltonWebsite www.sport-excellence.co.uk/Podcast podfollow.com/demystifying-mental-toughness/viewFacebook Page www.facebook.com/MentalToughnessMattersInstagram www.instagram.com/mentaltoughnessmattersLinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/dwcharlton/Connect with Lesley ThomasFREE Resources www.themoneyconfidenceacademy.com/resources/My website www.themoneyconfidenceacademy.com/Join my Facebook Group www.facebook.com/groups/letstalkmoneyandmoreYoutube channel www.youtube.com/@themoneyconfidenceacademyFollow me on Instagram www.instagram.com/lesleythomascoaching/Connect with me on LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/lesley-thomas Hosted on Acast.
