73. Poison (1991) with Kyran Wheatley

from The Mish and Zach Podcast

One of legendary Comedian/Broadcaster Kyran Wheatley's favourite movies is 'Romeo and Juliet' starring John Leguizamo... so naturally, Mish and Zach made him watch a small, arty, low budget horror/sci-fi/drama from 1991 called Poison, directed by Todd Hayes - a film made up of 3 small films. The first story is titled 'Hero' - a documentary style story about a young boy accused of shooting his dad and then flying away. Literally flying. Like at tthe end of the movie Birdman but with less Emma Stone and more early 90s hairstyles. The second story is titled ‘Horror’. A scientist accidentally drinks a liquid, horny sex elixir while checking out a female scientist’s arse. It gives him a bit of a rash, makes him incredibly stern and has him dressing like Johnny Cash. The third story is titled ‘Homo’, a story set in prison that follows a violent, passionate and sexual relationship between two of the male inmates. This Todd Hates movie was said to be a real trailblazer in the queer film movement of the early 90s. It is as much a study of genres than anything else, featuring noir, melodrama and voxpop.John Leguizamo features in the story Homo, playing the role of Chanchi - one of the inmates. Hosted on Acast.
