74: Mike and Ariane Fisher of Storymix Media

A little about our guests. Mike and Ariane have been together for 20 years, been in business together for 7 years and have 7 children ranging in age from 15 years old to 6 months. Both Ariane and Mike are engineers. Mike is an aerospace engineer and Ariane is a mechanical engineer. Both enjoy playing hockey, which has helped Ariane in delivering all 7 children without any meds, 6 born at home and one delivered by Mike alone. Both Mike and Ariane have varied interests including gardening, skiing, rollerblading and drinking bourbon. A little about their business. Storymix is all about telling a story, your story, through user-generated content. Storymix started as “Reeltime DVD,a home video editing company. After a launch party where hundreds of friends and family said what a great idea this was and they would be customers, Ariane received 2 orders for video editing. Mike was studying lean start-up business practices and came into Reeltime DVD to help the company pivot and become Storymix Media. Before going forward, Mike and Ariane decided to look at what market would be best by studying potential clients. They put together what Mikes calls the ugliest wedding website ever and created an MVP – Minimum Viable Product study to find their direction. From this discovery process the main idea that became Storymix Media was created. One piece of advice (the nutshell version)Believe in yourself and just go for it.
