75. Poverty to Prominence I Astrid Tuminez shares the essential elements for transformation
from What Now · host Mary Alice Hatch
Join me as I speak with Astrid Tuminez, first female President of Utah Valley University, where she shares her incredible story of being rescued by nuns from the slums of the Philippines at the tender age of five, leading her to a primary education that would eventually launch her into the Ivy Leagues and international corporate success. She talks about how she got past the fear, shame and self-doubt of being a working mother in a church culture that at times has been less supportive of working mothers. She describes how she discovered her own divine worth and how she pushed herself to the very limit of what she could accomplish, with the talents the Lord has given her. She brings this same vision to her new role as UVU President, where she strives to model for her students the ability to be resilient and proud of the path they choose for themselves. It is fitting that the new UVU theme she has selected is, “Come as you are, UVU has a place for you.”
