#77 - Arno Brok, Commissaris van de Koning in Friesland (S01)

'Ik ben in Friesland gelukkig geworden als mens’ Elsbeth Gruteke praat met de Commissaris van de Koning van Friesland, Arno Brok. Hij bekleedt deze functie nu ruim twee jaar. Friesland is de provincie waar hij zijn hart aan verloor toen hij er ging studeren. Voordat hij commissaris werd was hij onder meer zeven jaar burgemeester van Sneek en ook zeven jaar van Dordrecht. Brok is rooms-katholiek en ontmoette dit jaar de paus waarbij hij hem vroeg te bidden voor de Friezen. Daarnaast draagt hij ook de prachtige titel 'Ridder in de orde van het Heilig Graf van Jeruzalem.' In het openhartige gesprek gaat het onder meer over dat hij gepest werd op de basisschool, als katholiek in een omgeving van protestanten. 'Op de lagere school kregen alle kinderen een poster van de Here Jezus Christus, behalve de katholieke kindjes.' Verder gaat het over zijn liefde voor Friesland, zijn geloof en ook de worsteling die hij in zijn puberteit doormaakte rond zijn geaardheid. "Die zoektocht was pittig, maar niet alles hoeft leuk te zijn in het leven.'
