The UCLA ATLAS Biobank is a massive precision medicine initiative that integrates the electronic health records and genetic data of over 90,000 diverse participants. By moving beyond historically European-centric studies, researchers identified ancestry-specific disease risks and novel gene-phenotype associations across 36 distinct fine-scale population clusters. The study utilized both array genotyping and exome sequencing to uncover how common and rare genetic variants influence conditions like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic renal failure.
