78. Advent: God's Love to Sinners
from Moments of Worship · host Sarah McMinn
Send us Fan MailOur Scripture comes from the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:4-5: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing” (Luke 15:4-5, ESV). Advent is the story of God’s pursuing love—one that refuses to let us remain lost but draws us home through Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. God’s pursuit of the lost is entirely His initiative. In our sinful state, we are incapable of seeking Him. The Westminster Confession reminds us of this truth: “Man, by his fall into a state of sin, has wholly lost all ability of will to any spiritual good accompanying salvation” (WCF 9.3). Yet God, in His love, moves toward us. Romans 3:11 affirms: “No one understands; no one seeks for God.”
