He was appointed as the first CEO of the Invest Alberta Corporation in 2020, with the aim of attracting high-value investments to Alberta. After leaving Invest Alberta, he has been in various advisory roles to global banking, investment, and technology firms in Asia and the U.S. Sam Cooper is a prominent Canadian investigative journalist and best-selling author, recognized for his work on Canada-China relations, corruption, and foreign interference. His most recognized work is the book "Wilful Blindness: How a Network of Narcos, Tycoons and CCP Agents Infiltrated the West". Cooper founded The Bureau, an independent investigative journalism platform, aiming to continue his work on uncovering corruption and countering disinformation. Brett Oland is the CEO of Bow Valley Credit Union (BVCU), based in Alberta, Canada. Oland initiated a strategy where part of BVCU's balance sheet was backed by gold to hedge against inflation and economic downturns, which has been both praised for its foresight and criticized by regulators for potentially undermining the banking system's stability.
