The way the Kingdom of God is talked about in churches can be oppressive. God is presented as the ultimate monarch in the sky demanding our obedience. If that is what closeness to God looks like, distance feels kinder. But what if that is in direct opposition to what Jesus taught? Not in some lost book. Not in gnostic texts.
