#8.2 Mental Health Awareness Series

from Burgess Yacht Crew · host Burgess Yachts

It's Mental Health Awareness Week and in honour of this, we will be publishing a series of podcast episodes tackling questions submitted anonymously by Burgess captains about what mental health is, how to spot the signs, how to deal with cases on board, and what services are available to help.  To help us answer these questions, we are joined by a very special panel of guests, with a broad range of experience in dealing with seafarer mental health issues. Co-founder of Seas the Mind, Mental health first aider instructor and crewmember, Emma Ross. For the captains viewpoint we have Captain Mike Douglas. Burgess Fleet Crew Manager, Lucy Medd. And finally, to talk us through the support offered by the yacht insurers, Charles Stephenson from Burgess Yachting Financial Services. In our second episode of the series, we discuss early intervention, the importance of opening up the conversation and what a captain can do when a crewmember is suffering.
