8/4/25 4PM: “The Souls of Black Folk”

Dr. Ken begins the week with a review and highlight of a critically acclaimed piece of literature regarding W.E.B Dubois’ “The Souls of Black Folk”, which focused on the concept of the color line and describes the illusory nature of the freedom granted to Black Americans by Emancipation among other larger themes. Dr. Ken opens the lines and chat for discussion on his takeaways & beliefs regarding “double consciousness” as a result of the Veil & how Blacks are forced to view themselves and the world through the white lens of racism with their own view of reality. As the hour furthers Dr. Ken speaks on the dying notion of authenticity & the hypocrisy regarding the plights of other marginalized groups and “Black Fatigue” as callers speak to the lack of attention and empathy for the fight for respect and recognition from our counterparts. Questioning all things relating to morality, purpose, & life’s ups and downs as Black People in America.
