8/5/25 4PM: “Black Men”

Dr. Ken’s review of W.E.B Dubois’ “The Souls of Black Folk” continues with an in depth look and discussion on Chapter 6 which contains Dubois’ sentiments on Black Men in regard to higher learning. Dr. Ken shares Dubois’ take on the popularity of trade jobs in the time period, and the phenomenon of the talented 10th, his true hopes of Black men fully seeking educational elevation & taking on the responsibility of community building. As Dubois saw school as a “passport” to a Black man’s freedom, Dr. Ken calls on Truth Nation to share their own real-life appliances and takeaways from this highly controversial chapter in the memoire. Further into the hour Dr. Ken speaks on how education can be a vessel to a much more stable life and route to becoming the visionaries and leaders W.E.B Dubois believed Blacks could be, as well as how Women factor into the books ideals and why Women need to demand more from Men aiming to become pillars in our community.
