Lesson Six: The Doctrine of Repentance Intro: This is not necessarily a lesson on repentance, but what the doctrine of repentance has to do with soul winning: for fifty years. However, I wish to point out some important Scriptures that shed light on repentance: Ezek. 14:6; Mark 1:15; Luke 13:5; Acts 17:30, 20:21; John 6:29; Romans 4:5 1. The blessings of repentance. • The goodness/love of God leads us to repent. Rom. 2:4; 2 Cor. 5:14-15; Titus 3:3-7 • The grace of God allows us to repent. Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:20; Ref. Tit. 3:7 • The mercy of God forgives us when we repent. Lk. 24:47; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 John 1:8-9 = repentance is ongoing. Ref. Tit. 3:5 2. The effects of repentance. • When one repents, they have a changed mind. Rom. 12:1-2; Phil. 2:5; 2 Tim. 1:7 • When one repents, they have a changed heart = soul. 2 Cor. 5:17; 2 Cor. 7:10; Heb. 10:16; 1 Thess. 5:23 • When one repents, they have a changed life. Rom. 6:4, 20-22 Biblical examples: Personal example: 3. The relation of repentance to soul winning. • Those whom repent can relate to those who need to repent. - Example of Paul. 1 Tim. 1:13-15 - Example of David. Psalm 51:12-13 - Example of Christians. 1 John 5:16-17 • Those whom repent want to tell others they can repent. Mark 10:8; 1 Cor. 2:12 • Those whom have a desire to tell others are motivated to repent. Prov. 28:1; Acts 4:13 = only repentance makes us righteous. Ref. 1 John 1:9 Conclusion: Our Heavenly Father wants to have fellowship with us and use us to win souls; thank God for repentance.
