Lesson Eight: The Sower, Seed and Soil Doctrine | Text: Mark 4:2-8 Intro: Jesus clearly taught the formula for bearing fruit for a lifetime involves three elements: the Sower, the seed and the soil. 1. The Sower is the Holy Spirit. As seen in lesson five: • He teaches us the truth. Ref. John 14:17; 15:1, 26; 16:13 • He empowers us to witness. Ref. Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8 • He guides us. Ref. John 10:9; 16:13 • The Sower can also be the soul winner. Rom. 10:14, 17; 1 Cor. 3:6; 2 Tim. 4:2; Acts 20:26-27 2. The seed is the Word of God. Mark 4:13-14. As seen in lesson two: • We must be in the Word. Ref. Matt.4:4; John 14:23-24; 2 Tim. 2:15 • The word must be in us. Ref. John 15:7-8; 16:13 • The problem is not with the seed. - It is perfect. Psalm 19:7 - It is inspired. 2 Tim.3:16 - It is given by Jesus. John 17:8 - It won't be sown in vain. Isa. 55:11; John 12:48 3. The soil is the heart = soul of man. Matt. 13:8, 15 • The problem is with the heart of mankind. • The devil steals the word from men's heart. Matt. 13:18-19 • When the word causes conflict, many endure only for a while. Matthew 13:20-21 • Jesus gave the reason many Christians are unfruitful. Matthew 13:22 - The cares of this world. - The deceitfulness of riches. • Jesus explains why some are used to bring forth fruit." Matthew 13:23a - Their heart is good soil. - They hear and understand the word. - Their enduring service brings glory to Jesus. Matthew 13:23b; John 15:8 - Their sacrifice will be rewarded.
