from The Home Church Podcast · host The Home Church of Lodi

Lesson 4 – By Being Available when the Holy Spirit Leads Text: Acts Chapter 8 Intro: Today's lesson centers on following the evangelist Philip's example of being available when the opportunity arrives to tell someone about Jesus. He was available to lead the Ethiopian eunuch to Jesus. We could call this: The Isaiah 53 plan of salvation. This is perhaps the best Scripture to use in witnessing to a Jewish person. 1. Philip was available because he was already doing the will of God. • He was already a faithful follower of Jesus. John 1:43-45 • He was willing to be a servant. Acts 6:5 • He was already faithfully preaching the gospel. Acts 8:4-5; Ref. Rom. 1:15 Note: God uses those whom are already being faithful. Matthew 25:23 2. Philip was personally and directly led by the Holy Spirit to be a witness for Jesus. • He was a disciple filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 6:3 • He heard the Lord speaking to him personally and directly. Acts 8:26 • He obeyed the Lord's voice. Acts 8:27 • He followed the Holy Spirit's leading. Acts 8:29 Note: vs30 "he ran"! This gives another perspective to Acts 1:8 3. Philip reaped the fruit of a prepared heart. • The Eunuch was returning from worship. Acts 8:27 • The Eunuch was reading the Scripture = Isaiah 53. Acts 8:32-33 • God often prepares hearts and is speaking to us to tell them about Jesus. 4. Philip was a wise soul-winner. • He asked the right question. Acts 8:30 • He began at the same Scripture = Ref. Isa 53:4-7 • He preached Jesus! Acts 8:35 Conclusion: Philip drew the net. Acts 8:37 "If you believe with all your heart" Praise God the Eunuch did.
