Lesson 6 – Proclaim the Message: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ"! Text: Acts 16:31 Intro: This great truth is perhaps the most disputed, denied, and despised truth of all the Bible. The world's religions, cults, philosophies and sadly many professing Christians cannot tolerate this clear Bible doctrine. It's still true "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!" Notice the foundational soul winning principles found in this exciting discourse: 1. Preaching the pure gospel will result in persecution. Ref: Galatians 6:12 The soul winning method of Paul & Silas. Acts 16:12-13 - They went where the people were gathered. - They spoke to those that would listen. We see the first recorded converts in Philippi. - A woman who worshipped God. Acts 16:14 = the Lord opened her heart. - As a result her family was saved. Acts 16:15 - A woman possessed with a devil. Acts 16:16-18 = the demon was cast out. As a result her life was changed. Acts 16:19 The Gospel made the unbelievers upset. Acts 16:19-21; Ref: 2 Timothy 3:12; 1 Peter 1:20-21 - They were worried about money. Acts 16:19 - They rejected the message. Acts 16:20-21 - The mob turned against Paul & Silas. Acts 16:22 - They were scourged and put in prison. Acts 16:23-24 2. Praising while suffering will be a witness to others. Acts 16:25 = They prayed and sang praises. The prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25b; Ref: Philippians 1:12-13 The prisoners were affected by what they saw and heard. Acts 16:28 = they stayed The prisoner's testimony kept the jailor from suicide. Acts 16:27 3. Persecution and praising opens doors for winning souls = The prison doors were open so Paul and Silas would have open doors to win souls! Wow! The jailor asked life's most important question. Acts 16:30 – What must I do to be saved? Paul & Silas gave life's most important answer, Acts 16:31 – Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. They said believe on Jesus not about Jesus. They preached the word. Acts 16:32; Ref: John 3:16, 18, 5:24; 6:29; Romans 10:9-10 Conclusion: The jailor and his family were saved. Acts 16:33-34
