8. Christianity Over Culture: Motivated By A Mission
from Mitchell Berean Church - Podcast · host Jon Simpson
This weekend we continue in our series called CHRISTIANITY OVER CULTURE. We are working our way through the book of 1 Corinthians. This letter written to the church in Corinth around 55 AD is filled with practical insight for us. Our lives are not unlike those of these first century followers of Jesus. They lived with similar temptations and distractions as we do. They were struggling to be influenced more by Jesus than by their culture. This is a battle we face as well. The good news is we can win the battle and lead ourselves and our families to love Jesus and live for him. This weekend we will focus on chapter 9 in which we find the Apostle Paul motivated by a mission and a calling from God. The Corinthians live in a prosperous culture, they have a lot of stuff and yet they are not generous. In fact they have a touchiness about finances and so Paul is encouraging them regarding his motives. He has come to them free of charge, to preach the free gospel of Jesus. He has done this to ensure they don't get hung up on any issues with money. He encourages them in this chapter that his motives are pure. The words he has for them are words from God filled with love and yet they are tough. The tone of this letter has emotion in it because the Apostle is needing to confront them on some difficult issues and they could get upset at what he is telling them. I know you and I struggle with this as well. It is important for us to know the true gospel and we must be careful not to cross up the motives behind the message that we need to hear. Join us this weekend as we are reminded of the true motivation for the message that sets us free from sin and death into life everlasting.
