Cathie Gillespie Physical Therapist, MPT. She is originally from Colorado but has lived in San Diego for the past 30 years. She graduated from Colorado State University in 1992 with a BS in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. She moved to San Diego in 1992 while working in a PT clinic and applying to graduate school for Physical Therapy. She graduated from the Western University of Health Sciences in 1997 with a Masters in Physical Therapy. She has worked primarily in outpatient orthopedics in San Diego for the last 25 years. She was a co-owner in an outpatient ortho clinic and fitness gym with her husband for 7 years. She sold the practice while her two daughters were in elementary school to spend more time with her family. She returned to work part-time 5-6 years ago as an independent contractor keeping a flexible schedule for the family. During the Pandemic she set up a side business - CGPT Physical Therapy and Fitness - in order to treat clients in Poway and surrounding areas. Cathie has always enjoyed fitness, and outdoor activities like hiking, camping, bike riding, and the beach. Her level of fitness and ways of keeping strong have evolved over the years from weight lifting and running 1/2 marathons to pilates, yoga, and body weight exercises that she also incorporates into her treatments for her patients. In this episode, we discuss different types of physical therapy, common injuries, different age groups and their needs, as well as women's health. We talk about menopausal age women and the importance of strength training, bone health, and hormonal changes.
