Souvent relégués au rang de faits divers, les crimes racistes sont restés et restent encore largement dans l’ombre de l’Histoire française contemporaine. Tributaires de mécaniques institutionnelles qui effacent leurs mobiles racistes, ces agressions, attentats et homicides spécifiques peinent à être correctement jugé·es, sanctionné·es et réparé·es, ce qui empêche de les penser dans un système plus global. Comment mener une étude sociologique sur les crimes racistes dans un contexte universitaire plongé dans un déni face aux questions raciales ? Quels liens peut-on tisser entre de tels crimes et l’histoire coloniale française ? Dans un état démocratique comme le nôtre, comment expliquer la persistance de l’impunité du caractère raciste d’agressions et de meurtres ?Pour en parler, Rokhaya Diallo et Grace Ly reçoivent Rachida Brahim, sociologue et chercheure associée à l’URMIS (Unité de Recherche Migrations et Société). Dans son ouvrage La race tue deux fois (éd. Syllepse, 2021), l’autrice étudie la dénonciation et le traitement pénal de 731 crimes racistes commis entre 1970 et 2000 en France.
