Om een berg te beklimmen heb je meer nodig dan fysiek uithoudingsvermogen. Je moet ook inventief zijn. Dat bewijst de klimcarrière van Herman Plugge. Hij verkocht klimtouw per meter om aan geld te komen voor de roemruchte beklimming van de Mount Everest van 1984 en wist zakken vol gratis Marsrepen en Verkade-koeken te regelen voor andere expedities. Plugge is ook de man achter de Irish Coffee award, een goud gespoten tweedehands bloemenvaas, die uitgroeide tot de meest prestigieuze prijs voor expeditieklimmers. De klimmersbond NKBV eert Plugge, ook in het kader van haar 120- jarig bestaan, met een speciale jubileumbijeenkomst én nam het initiatief tot dit tweeluik over de bloedstollende en soms hilarische avonturen uit zijn klimmersbestaan.
Deze documentaire verschijnt ook als tweeluik in de podcast Sisyphus, een serie over legendarische bergbeklimmingen en de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse alpinisme.
