#80: The Ryder Cup Preview Show

It’s Ryder Cup week, and the Basic Bogeys crew is fired up as the 2025 matches head to Bethpage Black in New York. TJ and Gary are joined by Nish and Chris from The Top 100 in 10 Podcast to break down the ultimate showdown between Team USA and Team Europe. The guys dive into what makes the Ryder Cup so special compared to the Presidents Cup, swap stories about past Ryder Cups (including infamous gear mishaps), and debate whether “home-field advantage” really matters when so many Europeans now play full-time in the States. They also dig into Bethpage Black’s history, its brutal setup, and how fall weather in New York could create wild scoring swings. The guys dig into Europe’s roster, debating the captain’s picks, the strength of their lineup, and even which players look more like dart throwers or fighters than golfers. They compare experience levels, talk about the underrated edge of match play, and imagine some dream singles matchups like Rory vs. JJ Spaun or Bryson vs. Rory. On the U.S. side, they break down the blend of young stars, putting talent, and the surprising rise of Bryson despite limited events. The conversation also gets into Keegan Bradley’s controversial choice to serve as captain instead of playing, Luke Donald’s polished European leadership style, and how assistant captains shape each side. With bold predictions, laughs, and plenty of Ryder Cup banter, this episode sets the stage for an electric showdown at Bethpage Black.
