80s Dance Classics Special - Urban Night Grooves 154

Every now and then I need a challenge to keep things interesting for myself. An 80s mix has been on my list for quite a few years but it wasn’t until a few months back that I started to work on it, after hearing The S.O.S. Band. It was quite a challenge from both the musical point of view as well as the technical side. How are you going to represent the evolution of dance music in the 80s in just 2 hours? I decided to stick to a selection of tracks I used to love and play a lot as kid in the 80s. Like anyone else I was making my own mixtapes, on cassette of course. The mixing process took much longer than expected as a lot of tracks were not sync due to various reasons: Some tracks have been played live (and thus needed to be sliced up and synced by hand) and most, if not all, extended versions have tape cuts and overdubs all over the place, causing some parts in a song to suddenly be a bit slower or faster due to the tape-to-tape copying process. Something you won’t notice until you try mixing them. I can say that I walked away from this experience with an even greater respect for mastermixers like Ben Liebrand than I already had. After 70+ hours of editing/cutting/mixing this is the final result: The Urban Night Grooves 80s Dance Classics Special.
