歌剧《日出》是国家大剧院的第七部原创中国歌剧。戏剧大师曹禺的经典剧作《日出》以鲜明的时代性和深广的历史内容在曹禺剧作中居于领衔地位。该作几十年来经过多个版本的不断搬演，影响至深。2015年是《日出》创作发表80周年，国家大剧院力邀著名作曲家金湘、编剧万方、导演李六乙等一流主创团队，倾力打造该剧的首部歌剧版本，以此致敬大师、致敬经典。曹禺之女万方，因其对作品的深刻理解和独特感情，深入体察原著的悲剧情愫，对人物情态和社会风貌给予了细致入微的描摹。
