81. Dr. David Gerdolle - Deep Margin Elevation and Magnification Tips & Tricks

from Dental Digest Podcast with Dr. Melissa Seibert · host Dr. Melissa Seibert

This episode is the second part on deep margin elevation with Dr. David Gerdolle. I highly recommend you go back and listen to last week's episode, but just in case you need a review, I'll tell you about our speaker. Dr. Gerdolle  was a professor at the University of Nancy in France from 1993 to 2005 and now maintains a private practice in Switzerland. He has lectured worldwide on topics pertaining to adhesive dentistry and biomimetic dentistry as well as written several peer-reviewed publications.  Last week we had a cursory discussion on deep margin elevation, and in this episode we'll be comparing deep margin elevation against crown lengthening and talking about it's safety. Just as a review, deep margin elevation is the process of raising a subgingival margin with composite. The traditional approach to dentistry would say that the margins of your indirect restoration (i.e. inlays, onlays, crowns, overlays, etc) must be on natural tooth structure, but modern adhesive dentistry offers us different treatment modalities. With biomimetic dentistry we can use composite to raise the margins of the preparation that way they're easy to identify and delivery of the indirect restoration is smooth sailing
