Weil Politik und Industrie seine Warnungen ignorieren, startet er ein ungewöhnliches Experiment: Zwölf junge Männer sollen freiwillig genau diese Stoffe konsumieren – unter medizinischer Beobachtung. Die Teilnehmer werden als „Poison Squad“ bekannt. Während die einen sie für Helden halten, sehen andere die Studie als unverantwortlichen Menschenversuch. Doch die Ergebnisse sorgen dafür, dass in den USA erstmals ernsthaft über Lebensmittelsicherheit diskutiert wird.
