People-pleasing has become deeply ingrained in our daily lives. People-pleasing has become deeply ingrained in our daily lives. The desire to gain acceptance, approval, and validation from others often leads us down a path of sacrificing our own needs, values, and boundaries. However, there comes a point when we must pause, reflect, and ask ourselves: Are we truly living our lives to please others, or are we unintentionally neglecting our well-being and potentially undermining our relationship with God? In this episode, I shared 3 ways that we can stop people-pleasing and please God instead. I also shared some effects of being a people pleaser.

  • Recognize the patterns that lead to the desire to please people.

The first step to stopping a bad habit is to identify the habit. This ideology works for the desire to please people. Take a moment and try to pinpoint the times you have done things or said words to satisfy others or gain validation and then trace out the situations surrounding these happenings.

When you have done this, it would become clear that you don't need the validation that is not coming from God.

  • Set Boundaries

You are your person so allow yourself to say "no" sometimes. We have been called to serve and be our brother's keeper but God didn't ask us to do this at our detriment. You don't have to agree to everything or do everything you are asked to do. If it doesn't align with God's plan for you, don't let it overpower you, say no and move on. If you fail to draw the line, there are tendencies you go overboard with your actions and lose touch with the reason why you are serving.

  • Be in the right company

No man is an island of himself, if you don't have good people around you, you would not be able to tell how deep into people pleasing you have gotten into until it is too late. Having people who share the same beliefs, faith, and values with you is very important because these people are there to draw us back when we are doing too much, they help us to love ourselves more and they remind us that the only thing we need to be focused on is what God says about us.
