Hij was pas 24 jaar toen hij chef online werd bij NRC, en het Amerikaanse blad Forbes noemde hem in 2016 een van de 30 meest interessante Europeanen onder 30: Ernst-Jan Pfauth. Mede-opdrichter en tot voor kort directeur van De Correspondent. Ook is hij maker van de populaire Podcast Over Media, kortweg POM.  Jong en succesvol dus, maar ook gedreven door een chronische ontevredenheid en een constante drang om zichzelf te verbeteren. Het bracht hem op een zoektocht naar het goede leven, of wat hij 'intentioneel leven' noemt. De sleutel ligt voor hem in dankbaarheid. Met zijn 'Dankboek' heeft hij een eigen ritueel bedacht dat door veel mensen is overgenomen. Wat brengt het hen? Ernst-Jan is christelijk opgevoed maar heeft het geloof achter zich gelaten. Waarom eigenlijk? En waarom is hij jaloers op christenen?
