Over the last several years, the ways in which service members and military spouses and families connect through deployments has changed. During my first deployment as a military girlfriend, I remember getting to talk to my now husband for 15 minutes once a week. As Internet connectivity has increased, families have the ability to stay more connected. But what does this mean for military members and for the families? John Spencer, a retired army veteran and military spouse, explores the impacts of this connectivity in his new book, Connected Soldiers: Life, Leadership and Social Connections in Modern War. In today’s episode, I talk with John about deployment both from the active-duty perspective and from the military spouse perspective.
