854: Performance Art, Counting Rice, & Cargo Cults
There was another pop-up scam that rocked the fans of Bridgerton when they showed up for what they thought was a Victorian-era dance, but got flourescent lighting, an exotic dancer, and absolutely nothing Victorian. These are a treat. Sarah demoans a marble art installation that was smashed to bits by a "performance artist" for the hell of it and ancient sketches in the dessert were destroyed by off-roaders. People are the worst. But we learn about an art concept that involves counting rice that Sarah can't quit thinking about, and we decided it is a great metaphor for so many aspects of life. Sarah turns the tables and teaches Susie about a religious phenomenon involving remote islands that experienced WWII soldiers bringing rations and other resources, but mistook them for divine beings. We learn why these groups have built a religious framework around them that still persists today.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/immortal-corpse-unusual-injuries-off-road-driversJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Get $10 off your first month’s subscription and free shipping when you go to https://nutrafol.com and enter the promo code BRAINCANDYGo to https://www.greenchef.com/braincandy50 and use code braincandy50 for 50% off your first box plus 20% off your next two months!
