87. Faith and Community in South Sudan: Nurturing Change and Growth

from God on the Move Podcast · host Lausanne Movement

What if the gospel’s greatest breakthroughs happen where roads are dirt, schools meet under trees, and following Jesus can cost you everything?  In this episode of God on the Move Tom Obwogo shares how he was sent from Kenya to Wau, South Sudan, through a partnership between Gracehill Mission Church, World Concern, and the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, equipping 15 local evangelists to plant and disciple nearly 200 village churches amid trauma, tension, and deep cultural practices. He describes prioritizing children’s discipleship through simple schools and Sunday school, training about 300 teachers and gathering over 2,000 children weekly, and using a savings-and-discipleship model that formed nearly 70 groups saving about $8,000 while encouraging farming committees. Tom also reflects on dangers, denominational collaboration, consistent Bible reading, and how God sustains him through sickness, loss, and testimonies of transformation.   📚 Links from the Interview World Concern Episcopal of Church South Sudan About Chalmers’ Restore Programe   🧑‍💻 About Tom Tom Obwogo is a Christian young leader and A2A missions coordinator currently serving in South Sudan with a strong passion for evangelism, discipleship, and community transformation.
