Haitai people The first trial for a soldier stationed at the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16, was held on July 12 at the Naha District Court. The incident occurred on December 24 last year, and although the soldier was indicted in March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not inform Okinawa Prefecture until June 25. If the information had been made public promptly, it could have had a significant impact on the prefectural assembly elections, which took place on June 16.
