Morning good afternoon. Good evening. You're listening to the old car podcast I'm Peter Aarhus and driving next to me is the little Mustafa morning good morning. We're in a Mazda BT 50 Yes live drive all new Mazda BT 50.

This is the XT arm on to be range. It's the twin of the new I-2D Max correct. I'm as there's Divorce for divorce for well, I don't know if it was a divorce. I think I just treated on a drink of four days Because forwards don't do to be with the German Volkswagen.

I don't know that's gonna work out. So they've just got an open relationship but they're not. And so we're in the Mazda BT 50 but I mean it's not just a rebadging exercise. I mean the front end has got a bit of a it's a stylish It's got a Mazda Renoir.

Yeah it's almost like a CX 9 front end. Well I talked about last night and went out to Eastern Creek now. Oh yeah it's a rural city. Yeah but I see up there.

Went to my friends five cities on eight acres. He discovered all eight acres. I parked out and everyone that turned up was like don't you get a CX 9 win. Okay so that's not one we're talking about the back of it.

They just drive like you know they drive in the car like where is that front yardies. No one's looking at the back of it. There's cars on the side of it. So they say the front end.

So you get a CX 9. I go it's a mosey to you. What? Yeah and it's a pretty good year.

I mean we had the other days we're on and spent took the family up for us. We've seen some record fully degree temperatures and what did you want? The econ works. The econ cracks.

And I think it's because it's the cabins as well. Well the interesting thing uh the the the may take you feel along with the demacs and I think it's the the mission tried and the only unit seems it's class that have re-ravates. Yes it's got re-ravates. I mean the kids were quite happy.

Rear events as well as a USB port at the back as well. Yeah you guys get full set the back. It is a dual zone system on the econ. Got a lot of safety tech blind spot.

The autonomous braking kick in this one. Oh no it's a good excited doesn't it? It's very intrusive. It's a happy chap and it flashes the it's not much of a hit up display but it's it's got the road headlights.

It's very sensitive. I'd rather have a sensitive than not at all. Yeah well it kicked you normally this morning and there was really no need for it to kick in. So either MERSF has a complaint like a confidence in the modern driver okay or they're overconferencing.

Yeah no it's it's my war at tradies hat when I when I got in it I had my bs jacket and I thought I'm gonna pretend I'm a tradie but it's pretty luxurious inside for a tradie. Like if you took your family on the weekend like you said you got rear air vents you got um it's quite comfortable. Yeah you've got the rear seats are a bit more if you've got If you think about it. Yeah so your kids are all that.

Mine are in booster seats. So even now removing the headrests with the booster seat there have been upright. Yeah so there's not much room to get the there's no plane back seat. Interesting enough the triton has been a pitch on the back seat which gives a little bit more comfort.

You can see back on the rear seat now right? Yeah they've got that rear back design at their seat pillar where this is a more it's a dual cable so it's the four door and the B250 comes in it's three great XTR and then at the top of the line we've got the mid-range I think the top of the line it's got all the safety. Come on it's a GT. Yeah it's got the leather trim etc where this is fully decked out it's got all the safety gear is in each model you've got the steering wheel sort of sometimes it went to be back in the line sometimes it didn't and it's got the um yeah there's no one in front of us there's no one in the other lane um it's some some roads are a bit narrow but they can't be on the forward facing time it's obviously picking up your drifting across a bit and that's because there's some narrow lanes in the main road here but it is a little bit too too late but not apart from that is it really nice drive really well reasonably well sorted it goes in your eyes a bit jiggly and you gotta remember it is a hoot they are jiggly because we've got no way to the train you pull away in the back it'll be a very composed vehicle so if you do there's a lot of people use it record sales at like the top three of the top 10 styles of Ranger and and the R-Larks and the rest of them people are buying them as family cars and you've got to drive them first you've got to understand it it is a hoot it's it's bouncy it's not it is not an SUV.

Correct. It's not an SUV they're running they're running drum brakes on the wheel so which if you're doing towing a lot of people do prefer it yeah it's it's built for purpose it's built for a purpose there will be the spin-off obviously with these i-suz will have the the new X which is the built-in the SUV version but it is based on the on the day max so it'll be interesting to see if Mozart follows suit and has a more off-road focused like but didn't do it with the Everest interesting enough no but it'll be interesting if Mozart follows suit and gets an off-road version of it i can't sit and doing it they've already got the CX9 the CX8 the CX5 so i can't say them going down that path with it but remember in the 80s where again they were re-banched forwards or was it the Mazda built the vans i can't remember whether Mazda built the vans at Ford re-banched the connavane but Mazda were big in the commercial market in the 80s there were a lot of big in the Japanese company i've always got a lot of fans but we're now you've got the Europeans have taken over and there's a Mitsubishi van out which is based on the on the alliance with the Renault van it's not your traditional Japanese man as this thing to have a really good formula for passenger cars at the moment we've got their CX3, CX5, CX8, CX9 the Mazda 3 and the turbo version so i don't know they're going to stray too far away from that but it's it's a good alternative i don't know how the styling is going to reflect to the to the guys that like to sort of like you know put some wheels on car and all bars and stuff like that some cars just some yutes are just not aftermarket accessory friendly there's a lot i went through the catalogue there's a lot of aftermarket accessories on this vehicle and the genuine stuff doesn't always appeal to the um so the guy that wants to spruce up his yute and i'm sure i have the companies like that would have a casual just some of these accessories they don't work like this car this yute has a car like presence right which may not scone style yeah it's stylish now if you put a nudge bar on it you'll get away with it they get on the old one because that was yeah pulling the pulling the front bar off this thing and putting a pull bar on it it's not going to work okay it's not going to be a very attractive car when you look at the range art it's going to run in that bluff run in that's right and it's um i don't know do we call this an urban cruiser yeah it's a stylish one it's a stylish are you uh the engines are three-liter four-cylinder diesel and you know what it's very very cool yeah the last car i drove that was a three-cylinder three-liter four-cylinder how about six eight so the Mazda's uh look at the old bush with the car he would not know this is a decent car you probably can't hear it a little bit on takeoff and when you accelerate you know that you know you're driving a diesel but off the mark it goes i want to drag a red light drag race or green light drag race uh with the kids in it it goes but when you want to kick down when you're already moving it doesn't have much there's no yeah there's no it's all down low the only way to fix that is you're gonna have to get the um like an i drive like a throttle controller yeah sharpens up the throttle a bit um it's adequate don't get me wrong it's more cutless a lot of people aren't gonna care no but more and more people are buying them and yeah no it's not a gutless engine it's more than adequate yeah it's more and more people buying but this what happens is these people are coming from your normal SGB's and passenger cars which most of the time are maybe people are high powered you know so as we know i'll be looking at the here or so i don't know after this is a nice car yeah in the nice you i don't know after driving it for a day and a half might not seem like much but i pretty much done a similar path to what i do daily right went out to a property and you know it's a good drive it was an outreach way um motorway urban i'd be able to do everything um i don't know if i can part with my arity no your work conditions would be different no no i want to you you know what i'm going to have to get something like the the dot ring well that's a different vehicle that's a bit more bit more plush bit more luxury and we own this talk of a Melbourne trip so now the borders have opened we don't visit the factory with the ramps and being new yep it's a bit bigger and you know what the i think the clincher was for me i was driving down the motorway and now mind you that the current dot dream on offer by the importer to Australian the comparison is the superseded model in the states yes that's right so the newer one has all the wizbancakey so you're blind spot monitoring it's got a big i think it's a a 12 inch portrait um display molyad media right and i looked at my mirrors and i saw a black one of these pulling up alongside me and as this thing drove past me i just all of that the messes and i said i need to get the doctor in she goes what do you mean you need i need it there you don't need 30 pairs of designer shoes you know 10 handbags well i need rossers wife this this that's okay um just a few other little quirks with this car again wearing my train hat there's not much cabins and beans i mean there's adequate like the drink the cup holders are quite big we've got two in the middle we've got one inch of the every door where i know i'm comparing it out of my wis van with his storage beans for folders and stuff that van driver lives in the van the train he drives to the side and jumps out and they're doing deliveries you know it's got speed recognition but it doesn't recognize the time of day so when you go to a school zone yeah it's flushing 40 but made it's three in the morning well so is it is it is that wasn't just work off the GPS no i not the GPS because none are treating signs because i was on the m4 and it read the 15 the sign of the on side it's got flushing 40 up yeah no no it reads the signs on the whatever sign it can scan it puts it in so if you go to a sign street there's no sign that the uh the speed light won't be on the the speed limit sign but like i said i enjoyed it it's got all the luxury wireless apple carplay and android android is uh not wireless it's not wireless i mean i did i'm Apple so i was quite happy i could test it out it works really well okay no issues without it hey google you know off we go yeah you get that i'm interested the audio um it's got eight speakers two i like to make this we should not buy it to crank the stereo but you know you're like people this is like you're like picking down no i'm not you're like i don't understand like you're it's very basic and there's no option like you know like i think the uh the GT gets the both stereo right you can compare it to the old you two the two speakers yeah whatever the GT gets the both they hardly still sounds clear of this what can i think the boxing get the both stereo on the the one below the premium yeah if it's even got digital radio i mean look i think it's the stereo i think i like these cranked up and i still i like it was cranked and it was just no you know there was no no i i think it's i'm not me picking yeah you are you are you are people are going to compare these the other thing i was going to say it looks big it feels big but we're actually driving it it's not that big other than you feel tall you're higher than you've got that part of it well yeah it's not that good turn it's not feel big yeah low speed steering is real good easy to park and it's not the clamshell bonnet that bottom looks high but you know you're in a big well i'm not the trucker i took the kids swimming this morning and there's a parking spot driver train in didn't have to go backwards and forwards and even getting out very easy to have good mirrors good vision all the way around the camera is actually the reverse it's good it's really it's got a good warning so i can see you know it's not another another neat trick we open the the latch it's got hydraulic struts so it doesn't just fall on you so they've actually thought about it you know it's got the liner in the back with the badging you know what was it going what was it going when it makes it you walk away you haven't locked the car yeah yeah it's got to yeah and it locks the car it does lock the car when you walk away i think it's got to lock the car yeah you've got kids in it well you've got shopping in it so you're going in and you know you take the shopping come back you get more shopping you've got to go to the car yeah if the kids are in the pocket you'll be right no i keep keeping the motor time lock it the shopping's in the back it's gathering cheerleading you know because we're used to cars where you put the hand on the inside of the handle and that locks yeah yeah go through some fun but if you're a trading you've gone you've upgraded up from eight to ten year old you oh yeah you're cheering so that's yeah it's like i said i wore my trading hat i didn't want to compare it to a wash my car didn't want to compare the same size engine to the night i'd say we're talking about the speed of the masarading before it was quicker what do you think would this match it with the x5 end that's still the quickest car we've got that the only way you're going to make the x5 end with this is they go for right take the track off right there yeah we've got a few thank yous we'd like to thank our friends at AMR Mazda in leadership like our inner city city in the west city family run business and they helped us out today and they treat you but it's a family run business and i'll treat you like you want to be treated like as a family as a member of their family so we thank Fabio and all the boys there at AMR for lending us the vehicle for a couple of days it's been a pleasure to drive and if you get a chance one day we'll speak to fire down to see how the stars are going but no i recommend it like i said it ticks all the boxes for families but you've got if you're going to go down that family path i think you've got to drive it and and understand the quirks of if you're a trader or a you don't know the passes it's just one of the next level the safety is paramount if you're on the road all day it's the safety that's that's paramount in this vehicle so i get thank you to AMR and bye for now
