88. Simple Ways to Regulate Your Nervous System During Challenging Times

from YES MUJER BUILD IT · host Wendy Amara

Our hearts are in LA. If you have been following the news, you may have seen that wildfires impacted various parts of LA County in California. In this week’s Yes Mujer Build It podcast episode, I provide three tools to help you regulate your nervous system during challenging times such as these. As we witness the community, organizations, and small businesses collectively coming together to provide resources and assistance to those in need, I want to remind you that taking care of your mental health is just as important too. Whether you were directly affected by this event or not, we all can feel the ripple effect when tragedy strikes. These three simple tools are helpful whenever you feel dysregulated, stressed, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your centered self. The first thing that you can do to regulate your nervous system is to take something off your To-Do list. Not everything is a priority, and it is okay to give yourself grace, compassion, and permission to not be at 100% capacity. Prioritize what absolutely has to get done, and your mental health. Step two in regulating your nervous system is to go back to your breath. Breathing exercises like box breathing can help bring you to calmness in a simple way. It can also be helpful to physically place your hands over your heart and think about someone or something that provides you with unconditional love. This exercise helps open up the feelings of being safe, secure, and deeply loved. The final tool I share is to practice tea meditation. Teas like lavender, ginseng, and osha root have calming benefits that regulate your nervous system and boost your immunity. Combining tea with mindfulness while drinking will help you release stress and tension. The next thing I share was a life changer for me: Lower your expectations of yourself during these challenging times. It's okay to need help, not to be functioning at your normal capacity, and to require less of yourself. Simple self-care tools and community will help you navigate stressful events collectively. In this episode, you’ll learn: How collective trauma affects everyone, even those not directly impacted. Why managing your nervous system is crucial during stressful events. How breathing techniques like box breathing can help regulate emotions. Why the feeling of love is a high vibration that significantly impacts mental well-being.Why prioritizing your mental health is essential, above all, to keep functioning. Why doing self-care practices like drinking tea can make a big difference to aid recovery.Connect with Wendy:Inspired Action WebsiteJoin Wendy's Email ListWendy’s WebsiteWendy’s InstagramWendy's LinkedInWendy's TikTokE-mail Wendy
