畫說漢字/圖解《說文解字》/1000個漢字的故事/東漢許慎原著承（chéng）双腿着地跪着的人形，被结实的双手托举着，这是最早的甲骨文字形“承。”由此也可看出“承”字的本义就是捧着。从小篆书写开始，中间又增添了一只手，逐渐演变成今天的“承”。“承”字后来引申为“承接、继承”之义，表示一种担当和延续。“承”用作名词，指的是起承载作用的物件，如“轴承”。（双手捧着一个人，承受了更多的担当和责任。）
