原文《弟子规》之四事虽小，勿擅为，苟擅为，子道亏。物虽小，勿私藏，苟私藏，亲心伤。注释1擅：擅自，任意。2苟：假如。3子道：做子女的责任与本分。4亏：亏损。5亲：父母，亲人。解析为什么“事虽小，勿擅为”呢？事情虽然小，但作为子女，不能擅自主张，必须先向父母请教，听取他们的意见后再去行动。因为我们还小，还不具备独立处理事情的能力。大意事情虽然很小，不要擅自做主而不禀告父母；假如任意而为，就有损为人子女的本分。东西虽小，也不可以私自收藏占为己有；如果私藏，父母知道了一定会难过伤心。
