9: 7 Keys to Habit Changes: Reboot to Make Change Sustainable

from The Everyday Awesome Project · host Polly Mertens & Samantha Pruitt

We dive into the 7 Keys to Making or Breaking Habits in our lives.  What gets in the way, how to set ourselves up for success and finally get the results we want.As an addiction and habit coaching specialist, Polly shares her 7 Keys to Creating or Breaking Habits:1. Clearly define the behavior and make it a rule (or a promise) with yourself.2. Make it obvious, easy, attractive and satisfying (from James Clear's book).3. Start small and build up over time.  Don't go for 1 hour drastic change, start with 5 minutes.4. Do it imperfectly.  Allow yourself to get better over time at something new - if you don't do it perfectly right away, expect you're learning and stick with it.5. Get accountability.  Outside of yourself - leverage.  A coach, group, partner, etc.6. Tie it to another habit you already have (flossing right after brushing teeth, for example).7. Prepare!  Preparation and scheduling your new behaviors.  Change requires forethought and reminders. It is time you discover how your daily practices shape your entire identity. Truth be told, each and every decision (then action) you make is YOU- casting a vote for who YOU want to be in this life! Habits are about learning and conditioning things into the subconscious, ultimately. Every behavior is a vote for who you wish to become - over and over again! " We reference two great books that share the best studies and strategies for becoming a new you:  Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. Coach Polly explains that the quest for self-improvement holds at it's core a raw beauty of imperfection, where the struggle becomes the strength. Her own twenty year food addiction habits were broken once she understood and put into daily practice her "rules" for who she would now be from this day forward in the world. Coach Sam, ex-couch potato turned IronWoman & Ultra Woman, shares her daily practices (putting her clothes out the night before - so simple, we know!) for setting herself up for success rather than relying on motivation to follow through.  We can't emphasize enough the importance of accountability and environment. Having external reminders to help interrupt old patterns to create the new behavior and surrounding yourself with people and places that align with your new self.Send us Fan Mail Follow Coach Polly @getbusythriving and Coach Sam @thesamanthapruitt Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/everydayawesomeprojectFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/everydayawesomeprojectLinktree for ALL THE THINGS: https://linktr.ee/everydayawesomeprojectWebsite/About Us: https://everydayawesomeproject.com/about-us/
