9: Defining mental health buzzwords (Dr. Emily Ferrara)

from Revīv with Amanda Coker: Breathing New Life into Womanhood · host Amanda Coker

If you spend any time on social media, you see certain words circulating more often surrounding mental health. Words like anxiety, depression, narcissist, OCD, PTSD, trigger, and gaslighting. These terms and disorders are used to self diagnose based on watered down definitions and keywords. Dr. Emily Ferrara joins me to bring some clarity to the conversations. She describes disorders from a clinical perspective and the defining characteristics of them. We also chat through why I've chosen not to offer trigger warnings in my episodes, and ways to self regulate when you DO feel triggered. Dr. Emily Ferrara is a licensed professional counselor and executive coach, and  founder of Simplify Life Counseling + Coaching. In her practice, she works with high level executives and professional women to grow, develop and accelerate as marketplace leaders. Her goal is to help professionals, specifically women, to experience greater fulfillment at work and in life. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), she aims to be her client's guide along the way as they learn about the connection between their brain, their feelings and their behaviors.  Simplify Atlanta: https://www.simplifyatlanta.com/ Simplify on IG: https://www.instagram.com/simplifylifeatlanta/ Amanda on IG: https://www.instagram.com/amandawcoker Did you enjoy this episode?
