9 - Dependence on Someone Versus Minding Yourself?

from Mindset Minutes · host Colm O'Reilly

Reliance on Someone Versus Minding Yourself? I went to a counsellor once when I was in a very bad place mentally. My world was shook and people I thought were on my side really weren’t! I asked them how often a week I should visit and they told me that any more than once a week and I wouldn’t heal. I’d just hope they’d fix everything for me, not develop any mental strength, and that I needed to mind myself during the week. All of this was correct, but I never asked what taking care of my mental health and minding myself looked like. So I stumbled my way through figuring out what that meant. What comprised a daily self care ritual. What felt like a chore and just another thing to do on my already overwhelmed and burnt out mind, and what invigorated me and gave me energy. A lot of trial and error went into the daily foundational practices I now talk about. Daily tasks that build you up is what minding yourself is all about. If you’re unsure what you need to do to take care of yourself, reach out and I’ll be happy to guide you through a daily practice that works for you.
