Dr. Reena Patel is a board-certified cardiologist practicing in Los Angeles. Motivated by her desire to impact the lives of patients over their lifespans positively, Dr. Patel has spent much of her career cultivating a practice based on preventive medicine. Being able to treat existing heart disease is a true scientific achievement but she believes that preventing the epidemic of heart disease before it starts is the ultimate objective for the future of medicine. Lifestyles that embody balanced nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, and restful sleep have been shown to be impactful in reducing the risk factors that cause heart disease. Dr. Patel’s mission is to empower her patients to utilize these simple techniques to ward off heart disease with health and wellness at the core of daily practices. Dr. Patel has a special interest in women’s health, nutrition, cardiac imaging, and continuing medical education.  In this podcast episode, Dr. Patel shares her knowledge about Heart Health. As a cardiologist she discusses different risk factors for an unhealthy heart, developing heart disease, and different types of physical activity to help reduce the risk factors. We talk about diets including Vegetarian, Keto, Intermittent Fasting, Vegan, and Mediterranean. The ASCVD score is the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease score that is used for patients 40-75 yo to assess their risk of having a heart attack within 10 years.
