9. ‘’Percy’’ – Prostate Cancer in the family. A MOVEMBER conversation

from The Penis Project Podcast: Breaking Taboos in Men’s Sexual Health · host Melissa Hadley Barrett and Dr Jo Milios

Welcome to episode 8 of The Penis Project Podcast, this is the place to come to find out everything you've always wanted to know about men's health but were too embarrassed to ask.     This month is Movember which is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues in men. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at https://au.movember.com, which originated in Australia in 2004 and is now a global entity.    Today we hear Percy’s story. Percy was diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 years after his father. He did not take the diagnosis seriously to begin with and waited 6 months before seeing the urologist, however 3 years down the track he is going well and is 90% back to pretreatment functionality.  Sadly it is a different story for his father. This episode is a reminder that early detection and treatment are the key to good outcomes.     The Penis Project is sponsored by PROST!  Exercise for Prostate Cancer.inc and the Yoga Vine. PROST is a not for profit organization in Western Australia is a not for profit organisation that provides professionally guided exercise training and support to men during Prostate Cancer treatment, to optimise preparation and recovery.   The Yoga Vine is a Perth based studio operating for the past 8 years on St Georges terrace in the heart of the CBD, offering daily classes as well as a suite of Professional education and personal development programs for students, Yoga Teachers and the broader community.
