91. Why we should be planning for our summer now … and why we don’t

from The Habit Thrive Podcast ~ Self Care Habits, Mindfulness & Wellness Routines for Women 50 & Beyond · host Lorrie Mickelson, Habits & Self Care

Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning. -Thomas Edison So let’s make ourselves some good fortune!🙌 This week, on Episode #91 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we are planning for summer.🌞 Yep, you heard that right!😉 Now is the perfect time to start planning for an awesome summer (and developing habits and routines for the spring🌷, of course). Unfortunately, many of us struggle with😬 or even push back against the concept of planning for our summer. First, we don’t want to plan. We want to go with the flow. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the idea of the summertime being free😎, open to possibility and not controlled by schedules. But it doesn’t have to be one or the other.☝️ We can let go of our planning just a little bit while still having some habits and routines in our daily lives. Try adjusting your routines to match your summer vibe: Reinstate an evening walk🚶‍♀️ while the weather is nice (Bonus: It can help you release some end-of-the-day energy so that you let go into sleep easier) Trade in your gym sessions for an outdoor activity like kayaking or hiking🥾 Take a break from your meal planning while on vacation, but keep tracking your water🫗 intake Second, we have a fear of planning. How many times have you planned to do something only to have it not work out the way you expected?🫣 We’ve all been there, and we’ve all felt the disappointment😕 of our perceived failure. But I’ll tell you a secret: It’s OK🤗 for our plans not to work out 100% of the time! We still learn from the process, and - most importantly - we are taking control💪 of our own lives and our own futures when we plan. Third, we have a fear of the unknown. What if I plan this picnic and it rains? What if I plan to play pickleball with my friends on the weekends and I’m terrible at it? What if I plan this dream vacation and someone in my family gets sick and can’t go? Take a breath.😮‍💨 These are common intrusive thoughts we all have. But if you let those fears control you and hold you back from planning for your perfect summer (or winter, or spring, or whatever chapter you are in😉), then you risk missing out on some amazing experiences. Lastly, we don’t know what to plan, how to plan or where to start. Maybe you’ve never planned before.🤔 Maybe you’re used to your spouse, friends and other family being the ones planning everything. It’s great to share the planning love🥰 - and often gives us over-achieving planners a much-needed break - but, again, it’s important to take control of your future and plans. The best way to start is to just try something! It doesn’t have to be a big plan like a home remodel or a vacation✈️ (although it certainly could be!). Try planning a nighttime or morning routine. Plan a bedtime.😴 Plan a week’s worth of dinners. Just remember that this is your life, your summer, your next chapter: Plan it, live it, love it!😍 Lorrie xoxox Mentioned in this episode: Register for my FREE Zoom Spring and Summer Planning Masterclass/Info Session on Tuesday, March 19th at 7pm- Spring & Summer Planning Session Order your 2024 Spring & Summer Planner/Tracker Here Loving the show?
