When I gave my two weeks’ notice, my boss asked why I couldn’t just find another job. It was a fair question. Losing my other job had triggered the decision to leave Los Angeles—but by then, I was done trying to make staying work. I wanted to return to Guatemala and finish school. I still wasn’t sure it was the right call, and admitting that I hadn’t accomplished what I came for was hard. Then a night at an Angel City match made leaving feel more complicated.
