92: Titration & Easing into a New Way of Being

from Spirit Crumbs · host Andrea McCallum

The topic of titration has been circling around in my brain for the past few weeks. When my nurse practitioner used the term regarding my ADHD medication, it stuck in my head. I knew I would receive more context around it, and I sure did! Titration is the process of finding the right dosage of a medication for your body. You start out with a low dose to see how you react to it, and gradually increase it if you do not achieve the desired effect.  There are times that we are experiencing symptoms and need to change parts of our lives to determine what is causing them. When we are trying a new medication, monitoring side effects over a period of time allows you to see if your body adjusts to it or if it is not the right medication/dose. Feeling stagnation, discomfort or pain can also be a sign that something in your life needs to change. You may be unfulfilled or uninspired by your work, relationships or hobbies. You can implement a titration process by gradually adding or removing activities or people. Start doing a sketch a day, or taking one client a week.  Starting with the maximum dose or going cold turkey can shock our systems and drive us back to our comfort zone instead of moving toward our desires. Titration is a way to test the waters and decide for yourself how much of an increase you can handle at each step.
